How to choose Bananas

Bananas have a yellow skin when they are ripe and they start to develop black spots as they become very ripe. Depending on type, you may also find purple or red skinned bananas. Avoid buying green bananas unless you plan on keeping them for several days before you eat them, or plan on cooking with them.

Climate and origin

Bananas originated in Southeast Asia and Australia and are now found in tropical areas all over the world.

Taste

Bananas have a mushy texture and a sharp aromatic taste that is just a little pungent.
